Why Limoges is the Place To Be for Your Next Cambio
Are you the kind of person who is looking for a city full of art and history, with high quality food, a low cost of living and a view of the beautiful French countryside? If you answered yes, Limoges is the place to go for your next cambio! Let’s find out why…
Limoges is a city with more than 2000 years of history and is really famous for its art, such as its porcelain, enamel and stained glass. Rumour even has it that famous faces such as President Obama, Queen Elizabeth II and even Pharrell Williams eat from porcelain plates made in Limoges.
Getting lost in the city will be like taking a stroll in the past. You might walk through the historic medieval quarters such as “Quartier de la Boucherie” and have a look at the imposing Gothic cathedral from the 13th century. Take a picture of the most beautiful train station of Europe, “Gare de Limoges-Bénédictins,” or spend a few hours at Adrien Dubouché National Porcelain Museum which has the greatest ceramic collection in France. When you’re ready for more, ask your Host to tell you about their favorite places in the city.
If you love food you will be delighted by the restaurants of Limoges — many are home to masters in the art of cookery. In fact, Limoges is famous for the excellent quality of its beef, which is well known for its tenderness and taste. For all of you meat fans, I suggest that you visit Limoges during the “Frairie des petits ventres,” a street banquet held annually where people gather to eat local meat. And those of you who are vegetarian shouldn’t worry; Limoges is also well-known for its deserts such as le clafoutis, les madeleines, or le galetou that will be delicious with an award winning cider made from Limoges Apples.
After all this good food you might enjoy a walk in the beautiful “Bords de Vienne,” or take a bicycle tour in the countryside. Maybe you’ll also pick up some chestnuts or mushrooms on your way for a delicious roast snack back at your cambio home!
Limoges can also be fun at night. If the Basketball team CSP play at night, we suggest getting some tickets for the game! The Limougeauds, CSP supporters, are really proud of their team winning the French national championship in 2015 and are a faithful and vibrant crowd! Later in the night, you can get a good drink at a reasonable price in Limoges’ bars and have a long chat with the locals. The bars and clubs of Limoges always have a fun and friendly atmosphere.
