GoCambio Stories: Learning Japanese and Making New Friends in Italy
Italian university student and GoCambio member Lucilla hosted Ayaka Morimoto from Japan for ten days in February/March. In return for some Japanese lessons, Lucilla provided Ayaka with some warm Italian hospitality, food and new friends. Here’s how she found the hosting experience…
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a law student and I’m 22. I like travelling the world and learning new languages. During my holidays I try to meet new people in order to learn more about the culture of the country that I’m visiting.
What was your first cambio experience like?
I had a great experience. I started to learn Japanese and Ayaka has been an interesting girl to spend time with. She is a very smart, talented and inspiring girl. I’m pretty sure we are going to meet again next summer in Tokyo.
Lucilla and her flatmates having fun with Ayaka. A cambio is all about making new friends!
What do you like most about GoCambio?
I like that I can share my culture and daily life with someone who has got a completely different lifestyle. I have understood a lot about myself and about being a young girl around the world – an experience that many people should have.
What did you learn from your guest?
Ayaka is an incredibly charming girl. She is a hard worker and I realised how different our countries are. We enjoyed our differences and we talked a lot about our future plans. She taught me a bit of Japanese, a language that I will keep studying.
Not only did Lucilla learn a little of the Japanese language, it looks as though she learned a bit about Japanese food, too. Looks delicious!
Do you plan to set up another cambio?
Yes, I think I will!
