You Know You Work For International Travel Startup GoCambio When…
GoCambio is a travel and skills exchange startup based in the seaside town of Youghal in Co. Cork, Ireland. We’re a small but incredibly diverse team from all over the world. Because we’re a startup, we work in a very dynamic environment where things are constantly happening; there’s a fast pace and a high level of responsibility. This means that we have to work together as a team and we do the best we can to create a working environment where everyone feels comfortable, can be themselves, and most importantly: have bucketloads of fun!
Working for a startup comes with its difficulties and is not for everyone. But if you love a challenge, are passionate about making a difference in the world and love to work with others then GoCambio is definitely the place for you. And as our team will tell you, you know you work for GoCambio when…
You’re passionate about travel and sharing skills with others
We’re all about making it easier for people to travel and learn for free, and those who work for us are no exception. Every member of our team is passionate about sharing their knowledge with others and exploring the world around them. Between us all we’ve just about got the whole globe covered, and we’re active users and promoters of the sharing economy and the concept of skill exchange.
This gorgeous place is where you live and work
This little gem is Youghal, and while it may not be a bustling metropolis, it’s full to the brim with small town charm. With our prime seaside location comes the beach, a lovely ocean breeze and coastal views, plus lively pubs, beautiful architecture and possibly the world’s friendliest people!

You work with an international team
It’s totally normal to glance over at your colleague to find them reading an article in Korean, Skyping in German or translating a blog post into Italian, while your boss is on the phone speaking (Irish) English (which, just between us, is basically a completely different language). The best part is you know how to say hello in about 6 different languages, and you have free places to stay all over the world when you decide to embark on your next overseas adventure!
Your colleagues are your best friends
You work with them, party with them, and you even live with them!
And because you live together, you also get sick together…
…and turn up to work in matching outfits
There’s a national holiday to celebrate every month…
La Chandeleur, St. Patrick’s Day, Oktoberfest – you name it, there’s someone here in the office who’ll be celebrating this week. And that means there’s a whole host of delicious national foods to taste. These are some crepes that our Online Strategy Manager Hugo made the team for La Chandeleur. Mmm…
…and if it’s not a national holiday, it’s somebody’s birthday
Which means selfies, cake, and plenty of celebrating – Irish style!
You take your work seriously…
With the assistance of caffeine and Spotify, of course.
…but you know when it’s time to have fun too!
You’re willing to go to any lengths necessary to get on board with the latest trends
We take our social media VERY seriously. Remember when #glitterbeards was trending on Twitter?
You get a day off work for St. Patrick’s Day
But not for Good Friday. Priorities: we’ve got them.
You use Skype to communicate with your colleagues even though they’re sitting right next to you
And your conversations are about really important work-related issues, such as…
You use Trello to organise all of your daily tasks
Your boss brings back goodies when she returns from overseas work trips
You can forget about suits – it’s casual Friday every day!
Your office pet has more Twitter followers than you
And Paco‘s official title – Water Marketing Strategist – is also better than yours.
You live, eat and breathe GoCambio!
And when we say “eat”, we mean literally. Just take a look at this picture that our software developer Mark sent us of his very own home-baked GoCambio pie.
Your hard work pays off
When you’re living the #startuplife, things change from day to day. It’s a risky business and you hit road bumps along the way. But the blood, sweat and tears that you put in to your work pays off big time when things go right! Such as…(take a deep breath)…
…when you reach a new landmark of users, get written about by Lonely Planet, land a feature in The Sunday Times, win the regional finals of the National Enterprise Awards, are selected to take part in the Entrepreneur Experience or are voted a finalist in GoAbroad’s Innovation Awards!
Phew, did you make it through all of that? And all of these things happened in the first few months of 2016! We’ve got plenty more exciting times ahead and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Would you like to be a part of our fabulous team? We don’t blame you! We’re always looking for enthusiastic people to join us at GoCambio HQ in Youghal. Currently we’re looking for a talented copywriter to join us for an internship. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be our next Copywriting Intern you can apply here. You can also check out our Work With Us page for more opportunities.
