GoCambio’s Ultimate Travel Playlist
The best travel songs are not necessarily about travel. They evoke certain emotions in us and accompany us as trusty companions along our journey. Sometimes, you’ll be sitting at a cafe in your home town and a song will come on that takes you back to a night spent beneath the stars in the Australian outback, a train ride through Germany, or that music festival in Serbia. And – here’s the best part – the song doesn’t even have to be good. It’s all about the memories you had while it was playing: sitting around a campfire, chilling out in the backseat of a car, reading a book on the beach, or partying it up on your last night in a place your now call home. If you need a few songs to add to your playlist, then here are a few that our team has put together for you.
For those sunny days
Sunshine (acoustic version) – Matisyahu
Our France Country Manager Anais likes the acoustic version of this song. As you probably guessed, it’s an upbeat song that’s sure to make you feel happy if you’re feeling down.
Mon Eldorado (Du Soleil) – Yannick Noah
I discovered Yannick Noah while on a high school trip to New Caledonia. Each day we had three-hour long classroom lessons. I can’t say that my French skills improved very much from these but I certainly picked up a lot of phrases from listening to songs like this one and others from the album Pokhara which I bought and took back home with me. A lot of the songs on this album are great for sunny, beachy destinations (or for times when you wish you were in these places). Just sit back and relax to some good vibes and reflect on the fact that everything sounds better in French.
One Day Like This – Elbow
When the sun is shining and the birds are singing, make sure this one is on your playlist to get you in the mood. Equally good to listen to on a bus or train trip for those positive vibes.
Porcelain – Moby
Another pick from a movie soundtrack, this one’s from that backpacking movie set in Thailand with Leo Dicaprio. It’s just a little bit magical.
When you’re road tripping with friends
Road Trippin’ – Red Hot Chili Peppers
The name and lyrics say it all really: road trippin’ with my two favourite allies / fully loaded we got snacks and supplies / It’s time to leave this town, it’s time to get away”
Handlebars – Flobots
Our techie Hugo first listened to this song on a road trip to the Czech Republic and recommends listening to it whenever you’re in a moving vehicle.
When you’re in the nature
Our copywriter Emma likes to listen to movie soundtracks when she’s travelling, and this one is pretty epic. It’ll conjure up visions of snow-capped mountains, gorges, elves and hobbits, which makes it the perfect companion to a road trip in New Zealand, or anywhere where you’ll find mountains, fjords and rugged terrain.
Guaranteed (Into the Wild) – Eddie Vedder
If you’ve watched Into the Wild then you’ll be familiar with this song, that’s perfect for when you’re travelling in wide, open, empty spaces.
Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) – Shakira
You might laugh but there is a time for Shakira, and when you’re speeding along a dusty desert road towards the Sahara Desert with a carful of your new best friends and this song comes on, you will sing along. This song will always remind me of the adventure of a lifetime I had in Morocco.
I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers
This is the song that you sang at karaoke last night at the local pub that had everyone singing along. Oh, you don’t remember? Well, we do. And we got it on camera too.
Around the World – Red Hot Chili Peppers
This one, suggested by our Marketing Exec Teresa, is best sung together with a bunch of friends. It combines funk with a singalong chorus.
For the way back
Home – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
No matter how much of a globetrotter you will eventually find your way back home, even if it’s only to save up for your next adventure. Aptly titled, this is Federica’s pick for the return journey.
