Profile Hacks: 5 Ways to Get Noticed by Other GoCambio Users
Has your GoCambio profile been a little neglected of late? Are you not getting as many offers as you’d hoped? Don’t worry, it’s not you, but it might be your profile. A completed profile goes a long way towards ensuring that those people who want to cambio with you notice you over all the other Hosts and Guests on our site.
Here are our top 5 tips for how you can maximise your profile to increase the chances of landing yourself an incredible cambio experience.
1. Add a good quality profile picture and cover image
It’s no surprise that images make everything more appealing, and that images in good quality have a more positive impact than those of poor quality. Whether you’re tweeting, giving a presentation or completing your GoCambio profile, having a high quality image is more likely to grab someone’s attention.
People want to see who you are, so make sure that your profile picture shows off that wonderful face of yours! A nice cover image from your travels or of your home will also make it more likely that people will click on your profile to see more.
2. Add as many images of yourself and your home as possible
A profile picture and a cover image are a good start, but the more images you have the better your chances of landing a cambio! If someone is tossing up about staying with you and another family in the same city, they are more likely to go for the one that gives them the most information. So start uploading those snaps! We’d recommend having at least 5 for other members to look at.
If you’re a Host, take some pictures of your home and your surrounds to give Guests an idea of what to expect when they arrive. If you’re a Guest, upload some images of yourself. These don’t need to be professional photos, but they probably shouldn’t be images of yourself dancing on the table wearing a onesie at the local pub. A Host wants to see that you are a genuine and interesting person, so upload pictures that showcase your personality and your interests. For example, if you want to share your skills in sports, then upload some images of you kicking a football.
3. Tell people about yourself
Remember that you are trying to convince others in the cambio community to do a cambio with YOU. So what do you have to offer that others may not? What interesting skills can you share? What makes your home unique?
Perhaps you’re embarking on round-the-world trip where you only eat vegan food in every destination, or maybe you speak five languages. Perhaps you live right next door to the your country’s oldest pub, or your town makes the world’s best origami. Whatever it is – whatever makes you unique – make sure you let people know.
4. Be specific – tell people what you want to share or learn
Be specific when detailing the skills you can share and/or learn. For example, after selecting “sports”, include a specific sport such as “hockey” or “tennis”. Instead of selecting simply “technology”, specify if you want help with web development or photography. The more specific you are, the higher the chance of finding someone with just that skill to exchange with you. Don’t worry about how weird or wacky your interests are – there will be someone out there who will want to share them with you!
5. Add references to increase trust and credibility
Ask your former or current employer for a quick reference to show other people that you are trustworthy. Seeing that you have the trust of a colleague, manager, team leader or even CEO will go a long way to creating an image of yourself as reliable, and it also shows that you’re a real person.
Get to work on your profile and wait for the cambio requests to come flooding in! Plus completing your profile may get you featured on one of our blogs or newsletters. If you’d like us to feature you, complete your profile and tell us about yourself.
