Meet the Team: Shirley
Shirley Ji in the house! Shirley joins the GoCambio team as our China Country Manager, coming to us with an MSc in International Management & Global Business, a very real sweet tooth, and a new appreciation for Western cheese culture.
What made you decide to work for GoCambio?
The special office culture is really attractive, and when I did the Skype interview before I came here, Rosie asked me a very interesting question – what kind of biscuit I would like to be! I just felt it would be very cool to work here, I also researched about the company online before, and everyone seemed happy in the picture, and when I came to the office to do the last interview, I just felt that the people who were working here were so nice, and the company business is about giving. The guys are here to help people, that’s really important for me, so you can imagine how excited I was when I found out there was a job opening for me which is exactly what I wanted. I would really hope to be able to come to work every day to a place where I knew not only technical work was valuable, but I also can help people to reach their dreams here.
What does cambioing mean to you?
GoCambio means a lot to me, it’s kind of my first office job, and the work here is really what I want to do in the future for my career. It’s also my first experience working with local people, which give me a great chance to try to get into the local culture, and the work here is about helping people to travel the world, to get a job abroad, I’ve seen a lot of stories here, and it makes me feel more precious and grateful about my own life.
What’s the one skill you want to master before you die?
I want a calm personality; I want to learn how to keep calm all the time, trying to make myself under control all the time. I also want to learn how to design clothes! I want make clothes by myself someday, the clothes in shopping centres are too expensive. Ok, if i have to pick one… I want a design skill before I die.
What’s the most incredible place you have visited on your travels and why?
Chengde in China, me and my friends visited Chengde Imperial Summer Resort during the summer holidays in college, I was totally into the old traditional cultural of ancient times of China, I also travelled a lot in Europe, but most of the time I was travelling by myself, it is a good experience travel alone, and the buildings in Europe are really different and special, but I think I still can remember every detail when I travelled in Chengde, might be because I travel with a few best friends that time, I really enjoyed that experience, I realised that friends are important for me.
Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
Maybe after 10 years, I will be in China, and have a small business, have two lovely kids, and a nice husband, and I have company with my family and my parents. I have a busy and fulfilling life, but feel satisfied and happy everyday. I may get older, but I still have a good figure, I hope so!
If you were left in charge of the GoCambio office for a day, what would you choose to do?
I feel excited even just thinking about it! I think I will organise all the staff to go outside and have a picnic if the weather is nice.
